There is no doubt that Jason Statham is a modern action star, with recent titles like Beekeeper and The Working Man becoming box-office and streaming hits. Meanwhile, David Leitch is one of the biggest names in action filmmaking, first co-directing John Wick and later helming the likes of Atomic Blonde, Deadpool 2, and The Fall Guy. Now, Leitch and Statham, who previously worked together on The Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, are looking to reunite for another action project.
Black Bear has set Jason Statham Stole My Bike for an Aug. 6, 2027, release date, according to Deadline. While plot details are currently under wraps, the title seemingly states the obvious, as the movie sees Jason Statham play a fictionalized version of himself and steal someone’s bike. David Leitch is set to direct and serve as a producer alongside Kelly McCormack. Alison Flierl wrote the script, based on a story by Flierl and Scott Chernoff. Principal photography on the film is set to conclude later this week.

The Aug. 6 release date was originally claimed by Miami Vice ’85, but Universal has since delayed the movie to May 19, 2028. That first weekend in August is the same weekend that Statham and Leitch’s Hobbs & Shaw opened to $60 million back in 2019. Currently, Jason Statham Stole My Bike is the only movie set to open on that date in 2027, but it has plenty of competition before and after its theatrical debut.
The long-awaited horror sequel A Quiet Place: Part III is scheduled to release a week before Jason Statham Stole My Bike. Meanwhile, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem is set to open in theaters the week after the Statham comedy. In a summer that also sees Man of Tomorrow, A Minecraft Squared, and How to Train Your Dragon 2, Jason Statham Stole My Bike aims to deliver some counterprogramming as an old-fashioned, adult-oriented action film.
As per usual, Statham has a busy schedule for 2026 and beyond. His thriller Shelter opened earlier this year and grossed $53.9 million worldwide, while his next film, Mutiny, opens in theaters on Aug. 21. The Beekeeper 2 hits theaters on Jan. 14, 2027, following the $162.6 million worldwide gross of its predecessor in 2024. Statham is also set to star in Viva La Madness from director Guy Ritchie, which was also produced by Black Bear. Statham has certainly found a niche in the action movie market as well as a loyal fanbase.
