Andy Last has hit back at John Cartwright’s recent social media comments, with the former Hull FC coach claiming that his son’s omission from the team this week was a selection decision.

Cartwright Sr, now head coach at Catalans Dragons after officially leaving Hull FC last month, took to LinkedIn to declare the fitness of his former player and son, who has been out for the last three and a half months with a hamstring injury.

The comment came after Last stated pre-match that Cartwright junior wasn’t 100 per cent ready to play at Warrington Wolves on Friday night.

Cartwright senior posted: “So just to be clear. Jed is 100 per cent fit to play this week. Hasn’t been selected. Don’t mind that selections are never easy. Hopefully next week.”

Last has now hit back at those online comments and has declared that there are a lot more ‘facets’ that go into ‘selection’ other than fitness.

Speaking to Hull Live after Hull’s 12-4 defeat at Warrington, Last said: “There’s consideration for Jed to come back in. I don’t think John should be commenting on my team selections. I certainly won’t be commenting on his selections with Catalans. That’s a line he shouldn’t have crossed, but it is what it is.

“Jed has trained well. He has done his rehab, but there are a lot more facets that go into being selected for a team. And it’s not all obviously about physical fitness. There’s a lot of other stuff that goes into it, but I would rather not divulge too much there.”

Cartwright, who joined Hull from NRL side Newcastle Knights two years ago, is out of contract at the end of the season, with the club already opting not to renew his deal.
