Sadly, a man has died after a “serious” crash on East Lancs Road last night, Monday, June 8.

Merseyside Police confirmed this morning a section of East Lancs Road in Haydock was shut for hours following a crash at around 11pm on Monday. A motorcycle crashed with a lorry on the westbound carriageway between Penny Lane and Kenyons Lane South.

The motorbike rider, a man in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have now been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers, the force added.

Police believe two lorries have been involved in the incident. The force understands one lorry crashed head on with the motorcyclist, while a second lorry may have been “indirectly involved” in the circumstances leading up to the collision.
