Henry Patten, who attended Ipswich School when he was younger, played in the final of Roland Garros on Saturday alongside his partner Harri Heliovaara from Finland in the Men’s Doubles.

They lost to defending champions Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos, however, 6-4 6-2.

This result means that no British man has lifted the Men’s Doubles trophy since 1933.

Patten and his partner, however, will have the consolation of being ranked joint World Number One in the ATP Rankings, dethroning Brit Neal Skupski.

Patten and Haliovaara were seeking a fifth title of the season and a third grand slam after winning Wimbledon in 2024 and the Australian Open last year.

The 30-year-old former Ipswich student, said: “It’s the first time we have ever made a Roland Garros final, so that’s a big positive.

Patten said that being World Number One, being the fifth British man to top the rankings in the doubles in the last decade, was “something to definitely be proud of” and it’s “an amazing achievement”.
