Manchester United will look to strengthen their squad in the transfer window after a positive end to the season. Manager Michael Carrick oversaw a change in the team’s fortunes to secure a Champions League place.
United’s return to European competition puts further emphasis on getting summer recruitment right as Carrick’s side prepare to compete on multiple fronts. Midfield has emerged as a top priority, with United agreeing an early deal for Atalanta star Ederson.
However, the club remain interested in other midfield targets. Nottingham Forest star Elliot Anderson, who is set to play a key role for England at the World Cup, is one of several players to be linked with a move to Old Trafford.
The 23-year-old enjoyed a stellar campaign last season, despite his club battling against relegation. Anderson is also the subject of interest from Manchester City, with Forest reportedly valuing him at £100million.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe gives £100m transfer green light
United are reportedly optimistic of winning the race to sign Elliot Anderson, with club co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe willing to meet the player’s wage demands. Forest previously rejected an opening offer from Manchester City, who are understood to be in pole position for the midfielder.
The Guardian has reported that United feel they can convince Anderson to join Carrick’s side ahead of City, who saw an opening £80m offer rejected. It is claimed that United co-owner Ratcliffe is prepared to meet Anderson’s wage demands if the midfielder opts to join the club.
Anderson earns around £100,000 per week at Forest and would likely receive a 50 per cent increase from either of the Manchester clubs. West Ham United’s Mateus Fernandes is one of several other midfield targets also being considered by United.

Surprise move eyed
In another transfer development, United are said to be considering a move for Leeds United goalkeeper Karl Darlow. The 35-year-old made 22 league appearances for Daniel Farke’s team last season.
The Daily Mail reports that Darlow is viewed as a possible second-choice shot-stopper behind Senne Lammens. The Wales international would be a new back-up option as it is claimed Altay Bayindir and Andre Onana are not part of the club’s plans.
Darlow, who has also been linked with Tottenham Hotspur, is set to be available as a free agent as he nears the end of his Leeds contract. Wolves goalkeeper Sam Johnstone is also claimed to be on United’s radar as a homegrown player, having started his career at the club.
