A major retailer has suddenly closed at the Trafford Centre – just four years after a much-trumpeted launch which sparked huge interest among shoppers. Electricals giant Dyson has now shuttered its concept store at the Trafford Centre, trading for the final time last week.

The boutique had showcased all of Dyson’s range of electricals – including its coveted Airwrap hairstylers, hairdryers, humidifiers, headphones and array of hoovers. In a major first for the north, the shop had also included a Dyson hairstyling boutique at the back of the store, where customers could book appointments to have tutorials with the range and their hair styled by Dyson experts.

It also proved popular with those buying Dyson products as gifts – as it offered a personalisation station in store to have initials embossed onto the cases of haircare tools like the £479.99 Airwrap and £400 Supersonic hairdryers.

However the black shutters have now come down for a final time at the store, on Upper Peel Avenue. It also appears to have been emptied of all stock, while information boxes outside the shop door have also now been emptied.

The Trafford Centre declined to comment on the closure but confirmed Dyson had come to the end of its lease. It’s understood the shop traded for the final time on June 2.

We have asked Dyson for further comment on the closure and are awaiting a reply. A new retailer has not yet been confirmed for the unit, but it’s unlikely to stay empty for long at what is a prime site close to Selfridges department store and the main dome of the Trafford Centre.

The closure means there is now no standalone Dyson store for the British brand at the Trafford Centre or indeed in Greater Manchester. However, fans can still buy Dyson products at Selfridges, John Lewis and Boots in the Trafford Centre, as well as online.

There are only four other UK Dyson Demo Stores listed on the official Dyson website, all in the south of England. They are at Bluewater Shopping Centre in Kent, Bicester Shopping Village in Oxfordshire and on Oxford Street and Harrods in London.

Other closures at the Trafford Centre in recent months include the former Claire’s Accessories shop on Regent Crescent, while its neighbour, Quiz Clothing, is also in the midst of its closing down sale after the company collapsed into administration with all of its UK stores set to close by the end of June.

Franco Manca pizza restaurant has also closed down in The Orient in recent weeks, but its replacement has already been confirmed as another pizza restaurant – with the arrival of Forbici in the summer.

Las Iguanas was also a big closure at The Orient, it too has been swiftly replaced. For works are now well underway for its replacement, Dave’s Hot Chicken, which is due to open in the summer.
