For the most part, new game Atelier Karia: The Night Kingdom & the Guide of Memories sounds fairly familiar.
Amnesiac protagonist? You bet. Item synthesising? Of course. An eating mechanic that changes how you look? Yea–wait, what?!
Set in the continent of Aladiss, first introduced in Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land, this sounds like a refinement of that game.
But as alluded to above, dev Gust is really talking up the “meal” system, which will see you adopt new abilities depending on what you consume.
Here’s a tidbit from the press release:
“While foraging, players can snack on gathered ingredients to trigger immediate, dynamic effects, such as sprouting animal ears and gaining specialized traits when consuming animal-based components.”
It’s an interesting addition, then, but it fits with the existing alchemical elements, I suppose. This game’s coming to the PS5 in early 2027, and you can get a glimpse at the gameplay courtesy of the video embedded above.
