Carlos Rodriguez fought to sixth on the final stage of Tour Auvergne – Rhône-Alpes with a gritty climbing display on the summit finish to Plateau de Solaison – Brison.

Rodriguez spent the day in the break with teammate Laurens De Plus, with Kévin Vauquelin who bridged across on a gruelling day of climbing which was won by Isaac Del Toro, who subsequently took the race win.

The Netcompany INEOS trio saw their move kept on a tight lease, with Rodriguez the last rider from the early break to keep pace with the GC groups to finish the race with a sixth place on the final stage.
