Drivers face up to four hours of delays on the M62 motorway after a crash.
Traffic is queuing for a mile with diversions in place after the crash which took place at about 04:15 BST.
The incident, which happened between junctions eight and seven on the westbound carriageway, is expected to cause closures until about 11:45 BST.
In a statement, National Highways said: “The carriageway has been closed to allow emergency services to response to the incident safely.”
Motorist were out of their cars this morning as traffic was stationary while emergency services worked at the scene, while the car involved was on the grass verge.
