Last April, Brian Morgan, who played as a midfielder for Sauchie Juniors, devastatingly passed away after suffering from a cardiac arrest at just 35 years old. He was survived by his wife, Zoe Morgan and daughter, Poppy Morgan.

To honour his memory, a golf day was arranged for June 7 at Schawpark Golf Club (Alloa), to get together cash for Poppy, who is now 12 years old.

The day featured a presentation, raffle, auction and a live singer. In total, 76 golfers turned up and raised an impressive £4,386.

Greig Maitland was close pal of Brian’s and has fond memories of playing golf and and football with him. He was one of the organisers of the day.

He said: “Brian sadly passed away last year and we’ve always said that we were going to keep his name alive and do something in memory of him.

“It was always going to be difficult, our lives are never going to be the same but it’s his wife Zoe and daughter, Poppy that we feel for.

“Poppy’s a 12 year old wee girl, her life will never be the same now with the passing of her Dad.

“So the proceeds for this year will go to her, to help her eventually with driving lessons or university fees. Then going forward, we’re going to make it an annual event and it will be split between Poppy and a charity of the family’s choice.”

The day went even better than expected with the sum of money, and crowd who turned up, exceeding the organisers’ expectations.

Greig added: “Brian was a Sauchie boy, so it was a testament to the crowd we had there last week that everybody stayed, shared stories, enjoyed the day keeping his memory alive.

“Brian was the life and soul of every party we were at, he was a character and for that he’ll always be rememebered.

“We had some great prizes and local businesses that helped us including five major sponsors, it all went a massive way to contributing to the great day.”

Coming up next month Bo’ness United, a team which Brian represented over the years, will host a two-day competition in memory of him.

The team said: “This tournament will give us that opportunity to honour Morgy.

“He played with ourselves, and obviously Sauchie. It’s will great to be able to remember Morgy throughout the 2 days.”
