Johnny Fisher has announced he is a promotional free agent.
Fisher had been signed to Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing, where he enjoyed a fruitful spell topping bills at London’s Copperbox Arena and became one of the biggest ticket sellers in the UK.
But his career took a hit when he was topped by Dave Allen last May.
Since then, Fisher has fought once, a fourth-round stoppage of Ivan Balaz in December where he failed to impress. The 27-year-old was offered a British heavyweight title shot on the undercard of Tyson Fury’s return to the ring against Arslanbek Makhmudov in May, but rejected the fight.
In an interview with International Boxing News’ Regan Slaymaker, Fisher revealed that his negotiation period with Matchroom has come to an end and he is open to talking to other promoters.
“I’m now at a really important part of my career, I’m negotiating my deal with Eddie Hearn as we speak, but I’m also in a position when I can hear people at the same time. I can see what’s out there and get the best value for me in terms of promotional stuff and who is going to push me the furthest.”
Fisher also remains in talks with Matchroom over a new deal.
“I met with Eddie last week and told him everything about this, I’m in a position now where we are at the end of our negotiation period and it opens it up to a broader sphere and all the different promotional companies out there.
“Obviously I’ve had some great nights under the Matchroom banner and we’re still working towards getting a deal done, but I am in a position where I can hear from other people as well. I’d be a fool not to see what my market value is. I’ve got to see how what Eddie is offering stacks up.”
