ITV’s schedule changes continue to cause chaos for their soap viewers

Some Coronation Street fans have been seen issuing a demand as ITV’s schedule changes continue to cause chaos for their soap viewing. But it seems that not everyone agrees.
As viewers know, it was back in January that Corrie became part of a ‘soap power hour’ alongside fellow ITV soap, Emmerdale, with half-hour episodes airing for each show every weeknight, which the network said at the time was because ‘viewing habits continue to change’.
The schedule change was launched in dramatic fashion as, in a history-making move, Corrie and Emmerdale joined forces for the first time, with residents from the cobbles and the Dales seen being caught up in a deadly multi-vehicle crash.

The lives of those characters have since moved on back in their original soaps, with fans getting into the swing of seeing each for half an hour each night.
However, as mentioned, there are ongoing changes to how Corrie fans can get their fix of cobbles (and Dales) drama, thanks to coverage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which kicked off last week.
This week, Corrie has aired in hour-long slots on Monday (June 15) and Tuesday (June 16) at 9pm, but now won’t return to air until Friday (June 19), this time in its usual 30-minute slot from 8.30pm to 9pm.

And it appears Corrie fans are divided as to whether they would like to see the return of the former episode format. @hayley_js_ said: “Wooooo lets keep having these long episodes please, hate the 20 minute episodes bad idea.” @alisonlewsley echoed: “How great was that to have 2 evenings of hour long episodes? I absolutely hate the bite size episodes they now do, it’s impossible to really get into the story lines these days. Such a bad decision.”
@backyardchick1 commented: “Brilliant having an hour episode! The 30 mins ones with the ad break doesn’t give enough time to get into it #corrie.” @CorrieRamblings shared: “Feel like I owe some of you an apology. I was quite vocal about how much I was looking forward to the return to 30 minute episodes but honestly, the hour long eps this week have been better than anything we’ve had all year #corrie.”
However, not everyone is in agreement. @HasanHussain777 asked: “Can #Emmerdale and #Corrie go back to the half an hour episodes please? Hour long episodes drag.” @EdithBo11775637 added: “I think I prefer the half-hour episodes if I’m being honest. This is really dragging now #Corrie.”
Meanwhile, more schedule changes are ahead next week. Corrie will only air on Monday (June 22), Tuesday (June 23), both for half-hour at 9.30pm, and Thursday (June 25), this time for an hour from 9pm.
