“Lone Wolf” hunting “The Piranha” in Southampton
The Italian boxer Michael “Lone Wolf” Magnesi (26-2, 13 KO’s) declared that he had Ryan “The Piranha” Garner in his sights long before the matchup they will hold this Saturday at St Mary’s Stadium, the home of Southampton FC, was finalized.
Both will dispute the WBC interim super featherweight title. At 31 years old, the fighter originally from Lazio arrives with the firm intention of ruining the dream of the undefeated Garner (19-0, 10 KO’s), who will fulfill his desire to fight on the pitch of his beloved club in front of more than 10,000 fans.
Magnesi, whose only two defeats have come against Japan’s Masanori Rikishi and the Irish world champion Anthony Cacace, claims to have learned valuable lessons from those setbacks to improve his boxing at a distance. “Ryan is a very good fighter. We have been working on the strategy with the team and we want to win the fight with an intelligent attitude,” Magnesi smartingly commented in an interview with BoxingScene.
Although the odds place Garner as the slight favorite,Magnesi dismisses the projections and trusts that his experience will silence the building. With the expectation of a hostile environment in the stadium, “The Lone Wolf” affirmed that the pressure from the local crowd will only imbue him more energy inside the ring: “Having the public against you gives you more energy, so I am ready. I know he is strong, but I think he will receive the first defeat of his career,” the Italian declared.
