David Mitchell stars as an introverted writer of puzzle books who pretends to be his identical twin brother, a police officer, to help solve crimes.

Filming took place in Rickmansworth last year, with High Street and The Drive used in August, September and November.
There were also unconfirmed reports of filming in Radlett and Chorleywood around the same time.
Other series that filmed in the district in 2025 included Babies, California Avenue, Trigger Point, and Tommy and Tuppence.

Series two will see Mark Bonnar and Sian Clifford join the cast, with the plot set to see Mitchell’s character work to solve “impossible” crimes for the Cambridge Police Authority.
Three Rivers District Council received a total of around £4,230 from filming fees paid in 2025.

California Avenue is another upcoming BBC drama series, featuring big names including Bill Nighy, Helena Bonham Carter and Erin Doherty. It is set to include scenes filmed during September and October at Pimlico House in Nash Mills and at Sarratt Post Office.
Filming also took place at the New Hope charity shop in Watford.
