Staying cool during summer is tricky at the best of times, but especially so when mini heat waves roll around like the one we’re currently experiencing. The Met Office estimates that Manchester could see temperatures peak at 31°C this week, leaving those of us who work from home without air conditioning in the lurch.
Debenhams shoppers are turning to a particular tower fan for assistance is currently on sale over at Debenhams. Instead of its usual £149.99, it’s currently down to £89.99 in a 40% off sale.
Sitting at 43 inches tall, it’s ideal for those who work from home or perhaps elderly relatives who like to sit in a particular spot all day. It has an oscillating feature that sees it spin around within 70 degrees, fanning cool air around the entire room.
While there are controls on the unit itself, the PureMate fan comes with a remote control too. This lets users operate the device from wherever they are, which is a lifesaver when trying to turn off the device before going to bed.
Alternatively, there’s also a sleep timer function that knocks the fan off after a certain number of hours. The LED display can also be dimmed at night so it doesn’t keep light sleepers awake.
For those that enjoy using essential oils, there’s a diffuser built into the fan too. This disperses scents and oils throughout the home while pulling double duty and keeping its occupants cool.

Amazon does have a few alternative fans that might catch the eye of shoppers. This £23 option was rated ‘better than a Dyson’ by our colleague.
Dyson is also known for making some of the most premium fans on the market. They’re quite expensive coming in at £250 for the cheapest model I can find at Argos.
There are currently no reviews of the fan on Debenhams itself, but Amazon customers have left their thoughts on the product page instead. “Having tried a few fans, we have found this fan to be the most effective and least noisy. We use it in a south facing room which gets very hot and it does make the room more bearable in the very hot weather,” writes one shopper.

A second adds: “Absolutely blown away! This is the best fan I’ve ever bought, even better than the Dyson we bought last year!” Meanwhile, a third writes: “This fan is surprisingly effective at night. While it may feel underpowered compared to conventional fans, it quietly and evenly circulates air throughout the bedroom – ideal for light sleepers.”
However, some shoppers were less impressed. “The main problem is that on any other mode apart from default the fan constantly starts up and slows down randomly. It sounds like an aeroplane taking off,” writes one disappointed shopper.
A second left these words: “Compared to other tower fans which have controls on the top, I found that pressing the buttons on this fan made the fan feel quite un-sturdy. There is a remote control, with battery supplied, which is quite good and this became my main way of operating the fan.”
