Teofimo Lopez is on the verge of landing another big fight off the back of his defeat to Shakur Stevenson.
‘The Takeover’ was thoroughly outboxed by Stevenson in January as he dropped his WBO super lightweight title by way of a lopsided unanimous decision.

He was subsequently ordered to fight for the vacant IBF super lightweight title against unbeaten Canadian Arthur Biyarslanov.
But Lopez turned down the opportunity to move up to 147lbs.
Rather than easing himself into his new weight class, Lopez is now pursuing a shot at Rolly Romero’s WBA welterweight belt.
According to esteemed boxing journalist Dan Rafael, both camps are locked into negotiations with the fight eyed for sometime in August.

If an agreement can be struck, then the plan is for the bout to headline a PBC on Prime Video PPV card.
There is no deal at the time of writing, although everything appears to be moving in the right direction.
There is, however, a chance that Lopez goes another route, with his manager, Keith Connolly, declaring that he has recently held meetings with Zuffa Boxing and DAZN about his client’s future.
Lopez is currently a promotional free agent after the expiration of his deal with Top Rank.

“We are working on Teofimo Lopez’s return right now, as we speak,” Connolly told Ring Magazine.
“I think you could hear some huge news about him in the next week and a half to two weeks.

“There have been talks with Zuffa.
“There have been talks with DAZN as well, but we know what direction we’re heading in now.
“There will be a bigger announcement than people think coming.”
How did Rolly Romero become WBA champion?
Romero picked up the WBA ‘regular’ title in May 2025 with an upset win over Ryan Garcia.
He was upgraded to full champion one year later, but has yet to step between the ropes since the Garcia fight.
During his stretch on the sidelines, he has seen contests with Devin Haney and Manny Pacquiao fall by the wayside.
