The Wire lost three players to injury during their 18-16 victory at The Halliwell Jones Stadium, and head coach Sam Burgess admits the news does not look particularly good for any of them.

Centre Arron Lindop, who was playing just his second game since ending a 12-month absence through an ACL, hobbled off during the first half with a knee problem while full-back Josh Thewlis did not return for the second half having required treatment for an ankle issue.

Then as the hosts fought back to ultimately claim victory, forward Jordy Crowther also hobbled off and did not return.

Burgess confirmed Lindop’s injury was to the same knee that he has just had repaired and that the initial prognosis was that he had reinjured his ACL.

“I find it hard to hide the sadness for Arron,” he said.

“I just hope the outcome isn’t what we all think.

“I don’t really know what to think because I’m a bit upset about Arron and I hope he’s okay.

“I know how hard he’s work to get back on the field, but it didn’t look good.”

When asked what the fears for Lindop were, he replied: “It’s the obvious. It’s the same knee he’s had done and he injured his ankle in the same tackle.

“He’s got to get a scan tomorrow so it’s fingers crossed, really.”

During his post-match interview with Sky Sports, Burgess expressed his anger about the tackle from Dragons centre Guillermo Aispuro-Bichet that caused it, which was put on report by referee Marcus Griffiths but not penalised.

He called Aispuro-Bichet’s tackle “very ugly” but in his post-match press conference with the media, he declined the chance to expand on those comments.

“I’m not bothered about the tackle – I’m more bothered about Arron so I don’t know if now’s the time to get upset about the tackle,” he said.

“I’m not worried about whether it should have been a penalty or not. I’m worried about Arron being okay.”

As if losing Lindop was not enough of a blow, Warrington will also now have to assess injuries to Thewlis and Crowther ahead of the Magic Weekend clash with Leigh Leopards next week.

“Crowther’s done his calf – he felt a little tweak,” he said.

“Josh has been carrying a niggle in his adductor for a number of months now – some weeks it’s fine and in others it’s not so good and he felt a bit of something out there.

“He felt his ankle too so we made a call at half time to get him off and not do any more damage.”
