Porsche has revealed its new GT4 machine, the 911 GT4 R, which is set to debut in 2027.

The 911 GT4 R will replace the outgoing 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport model, and is the first Porsche GT4 developed around the 911 platform.

The car is based on the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992.2), which debuted in Porsche’s one-make series this year, and will be powered by a 4.0-litre six-cylinder water-cooled boxer engine producing up to 520 horsepower, although this will be reduced in competition through Balance of Performance. Changes compared to the 992.2-spec 911 GT3 Cup, necessitated by the regulations, include the use of narrower wheels, and production wheel mountings.

Compared to the current Cayman GT4, alongside increased power, the car also features wider track widths and further-developed electronics. As well as performance, the aim is that these changes will help improve drivability and stability, particularly in racing conditions.

Porsche first entered GT4 in 2016, and up until this point has exclusively relied on the Cayman platform, producing over 1500 cars and finding significant success, such as winning 11 titles in 2024 alone.

“Our decision to bring the 911 platform into the GT4 category underlines the growing importance of this class in international motorsport. GT4 has evolved from an entry-level segment into a highly competitive, globally relevant racing platform.”

The Porsche 911 GT4 R is set to be on display at this weekend’s 24 Hours of Spa, for the car’s first public appearance.
