Fabrizio Romano claims that the Blues have made an initial approach to buy the 26-year-old, with negotiations ongoing for a deal in the region of €30m (around £25.9m), but that Town face competition from a number of other clubs who are keen.
Alexsandro made the move to Ligue 1 in 2022, having come through the ranks at Flamengo’s academy before playing for Praiense at senior level, as well as Portuguese clubs Amora and Chaves.
He has been a crucial player for the Mastiffs in recent years, earning him a call-up to the Brazil national team in 2025. He now has three caps to his name.
The 6’2 left-footed defender is back to full fitness after an injury-hit campaign, having struggled with thigh and calf injuries that saw him play just nine Ligue 1 matches for Lille in 2025/26. He is under contract until 2028.

Alex’s verdict
Obviously one of the more reliable transfer rumours we’ve had so far this summer. Alexsandro can certainly be described as a late-bloomer, but he’s playing at a very high level at the moment. There’s no wonder that there’s so much interest in him.
He’s certainly aggressive and front-footed in his approach. He’s strong into duels but can also carry the ball forward into midfield really well, seeming calm and composed in possession.
Although a defined as a left-footer, his right foot is equally as strong when it comes to playing out from the back. It’s clearly an area Ipswich are targeting, amid interest in Juventus’ Lloyd Kelly.
I think his profile would suit English football. The fact he’s played in European competitions with Lille and international football with Brazil only adds to his experience.
His injury record from last season makes for difficult reading, however. He would probably be at the World Cup with Carlo Ancelotti’s side if he managed to stay fit last season.
At almost £26m, he’d be Ipswich’s record signing as things stand. He would also be the first Brazilian to play for the club, should he join.
