A mum performed a final selfless act before she was killed by a falling tree branch.

Madia Kauser had been taking her five-year-old daughter and nine-year-old son for a walk at Witton Country Park at around 8.30pm on August 11 when the tragedy struck.

Mrs Kauser had been pushing her daughter in a pram when a large tree branch began to fall directly towards them, and in a desperate act she was able to push her daughter to safety before taking the full force of the branch, the Mirror reports.

When emergency services arrived they found that Mrs Kauser was unresponsive and she was declared dead at the scene. Thanks to her final act, her daughter was not injured.

Mrs Kauser’s husband Wasim Khan, 33, had been walking ahead with their nine-year-old son when the branch fell.

Mr Khan rushed to his wife’s side, but tragically nothing could be done to save her.

A number of her relatives arrived quickly after the sudden and heartbreaking tragedy.

Blackburn with Darwen Council set up a cordon, and the tree the branch had fallen from was felled.

Zamir Khan MBE, former mayor and current councillor who is an uncle in the close-knit family, said that the coroner still had Mrs Kauser’s body.

He told MailOnline: “Her little girl told me her mother pushed her out of the way as the branch fell. Madia was a loving, doting mother and a very caring person.

“The older boy was walking with his father in front and could not believe what happened. It is very hard for the children. I do not think they will ever walk in that park again.”

The accident happened close to the park’s Big Cover wood, which is mostly covered by trees.

A council statement said: “Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council is deeply saddened to confirm that a member of the public has tragically died following an incident in Witton Park yesterday, when a large tree branch fell.”

Denise Park, Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council’s chief executive, said: “Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with the family and friends of the person who has lost their life at this very difficult time. Emergency services, including paramedics and the air ambulance, attended the scene. Council staff also supported by cordoning off the area to ensure public safety.

“As part of precautionary safety measures, the tree involved was being felled this morning. Witton Park is a much-loved community space, and the safety of everyone who visits is of the utmost importance to us.

Facebook group Blackburn Muslim posted a notice of condolences about Madia’s death saying: “Please keep this mother and her young children in your prayers. May Allah give them Sabrun Jameel. Condolences can be paid to the family at Madina Masjid on Oak St from 11am.”

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said the death was not being treated as suspicious and a file would be prepared for the coroner.
