Police Scotland said the body of a man was discovered in a wooded area near Bridgend Road at around 1.05pm on Wednesday, July 1.

Formal identification has yet to take place, but the family of Andrew Cochrane, who had been reported missing from Greenock last week, has been informed.

Police said the death is not believed to be suspicious.

A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.

Mr Cochrane, 68, was last seen at around 9.45am on Thursday, June 25, near the Lady Octavia Sports Centre.

A significant search operation was launched involving large numbers of police officers and concentrating on the area around the sport centre.

Officers also carried out enquiries in parts of Port Glasgow, including around Mackie Avenue.
