Indian equity and commodity markets will remain closed on Friday, August 15, 2025, in observance of the country’s 78th Independence Day. Both the BSE and NSE will be shut for all forms of trading, including equities, derivatives, and securities lending and borrowing (SLB) transactions.

This holiday marks a scheduled closure in the trading calendar, meaning there will be no market activity across segments on the day. Investors will have to wait until Monday, August 18, 2025, for trading to resume.

Apart from the stock exchanges, major commodity trading platforms will also observe a full-day closure. The Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will remain shut for both its morning and evening sessions, halting trades in bullion, energy, and other commodities.

Similarly, the National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX) will also be closed for the day. As India’s largest agri-commodity exchange, NCDEX handles trades in agricultural products such as oilseeds, pulses, and spices, and the closure will pause all such market activities until the next trading day.

The holiday across equity and commodity markets will give market participants a long weekend, but traders may also factor in potential volatility when markets reopen, as positions and strategies will be adjusted post-holiday.
