An inquiry has been launched following a ‘targeted attack’ in which the late Ricky Hatton’s vehicle was set ablaze outside his son Campbell’s residence in Tameside.
Emergency services, including police and firefighters, rushed to the residential road in Hattersley, Hyde after flames erupted on Monday evening (June 29). The incident, which also involved a smashed front window, took place the night before a gas leak affected the area.
A significant investigation is now under way after the property’s driveway was left scorched and strewn with burnt wreckage. In a social media statement, boxer Campbell Hatton revealed the motor belonged to his late father, former world boxing champion Ricky Hatton.
Hatton passed away tragically aged 46 last September after being discovered unresponsive at his Hyde home, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Addressing Monday’s events, Campbell, 25, stated: “At around 11.40pm my dad’s car got set on fire outside my house. CCTV of two lads look like they came through the valley in Hattersley to do it so anyone with any info or cameras that might have caught anything let me know.
“Absolutely gutted the car was one of the only things I’ve got that was my dads and a lot of sentimental stuff ruined. Need to get to the bottom of it I have a seven-year-old daughter who stays here.”
The Manchester Evening News previously attempted to contact Campbell at the property the day after the incident on Tuesday (June 30). Greater Manchester Police confirmed they attended the scene alongside firefighters following the blaze at approximately 11.45pm on Monday (June 29).
Emergency services continued their investigations at the location throughout Tuesday (June 30). No arrests have been made at this time.

“Officers from our Tameside district are appealing for information after a vehicle was deliberately set on fire outside an address,” a force spokesperson said.
“We were called at 11.45pm to reports or a car which had been set on fire, officers attended the scene along with colleagues from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service.
“No arrests have been made at this stage. It is believed to be a targeted attack with no wider risk to the public, and investigations are ongoing. Officers are now appealing to the public for their help as we continue to make enquiries into this incident.”
Fire and rescue teams were subsequently called out on Tuesday morning (June 30) following reports of a gas leak. “Firefighters worked alongside partners from Greater Manchester Police and Cadent to make the area safe,” a spokesperson confirmed.
“No injuries were reported and crews were on the scene for around four and a half hours.”
