Five homes have been evacuated after a large fire broke out at a scrapyard in Nottingham.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said it was called to Radford Road, Basford, on Wednesday at 10:31 BST.

Incident commander Tom Staples said a large amount of scrap metal was on fire and it was too early to say what the cause was. Six fire engines and an aerial ladder platform are at the scene.

Staples added: “About five homes have been evacuated in the immediate vicinity. Obviously the business that has been affected has been evacuated.”

People living and working nearby have been advised to close doors and windows as the fire has generated a large plume of smoke.
