Cobolli’s bright red racket is proving to be very helpful, as both players are wearing all-white including forward baseball caps. It takes a lovely couple of swings through the air as he gets to 40-0. Fery thundered a winner, with nothing to lose, and Cobolli shakes off another shanked forehand to hold.

Heck of a hold from Fery, as he moves in behind the serve and controls the volley, then as he he attacks with the crisp backhand down the line. Fery shakes his fist as he heads back to his seat 4-3 ahead.

Deep breaths from Fery as he wraps himself in the ice towel and enjoys some shade.

Fery has won the majority of the baseline exchanges so far but blinks on the backhand exchange and suddenly has to face 0-30. What a point! Fery’s drop shot was replied for a lob by Cobolli, but Fery stayed alive and hung up a lob himself. Cobolli thrashes a forehand into the net.

Cobolli then goes for another forehand winner, but opts for too much. He does work his way to break point, though, as he targets the Fery forehand and blasts his way through, wrong-footing the Briton. Fery catches the very edge of the line with the second serve and Cobolli hits out! Deuce.

Another volley from Fery collapses into the net. He is not looking confident in the net points so far. But the 24-year-old steadies behind serve. Fery swats at a body serve and Cobolli takes the game with a forehand winner. Cobolli’s box are looking very animated aleady.

Fery nets and faces a pressure point on 30-30 but that serve certainly packs more of a punch than 127mph suggests.

Outstanding hitting from Fery, corner to corner! Even a mover as good as Cobolli is pushes back, and nets!

No signs of nerves so far from Fery, he leads after 18 minutes.

Superb from Fery as he takes on the forehand down the line on the first point of Cobolli’s serve. Then, Centre Court almost erupts as Fery wins the game of cat and mouse at the net and puts away the volley.

0-30, and it could have been break point if a second Fery volley crept over the net cord! Instead, Cobolli steadies behind serve. The Italian grunts as he gets through a tough service game just as Fery looked to have a chance.

Cobolli scrambles to meet a Fery backhand and successfully hangs up a lob that pushes Fery back. Cobolli then injects pace, but puts his forehand into the net from close range. A confident start from Fery, with Cobolli having to face different approaches and anlges than he is likely to have faced so far this tournament.

He wraps himself in an ice towel at the change of ends.

Fery’s crisp backhand opens up the angle but he can’t keep the pick-up volley down. Cobolli finds the ace with a serve down the middle, but then whiffs at a forehand. Cobolli finds a big 132mph first serve out wide and the Italian holds.

Fery jumps to 40-0 as Cobolli adjusts to the Briton’s rather unique serve, with is something of pocket rocket. Fery nudges a volley wide and then nets, but gets through the opening game as he follows in a serve and puts away the winner. Loud roars accompany every Fery point!
