We already know that Persona 4 Revival won’t be making any sweeping changes to the original game’s story, but it does sound like certain scenes and dialogue will be altered — at least to some small extent.
Most notably, the remake will adjust the behaviour of main party member Yosuke Hanamura, as confirmed by producer Kazuhisa Wada in an interview with Anime Corner.
Wada reiterates that Revival doesn’t make any big changes to “the story or the character’s thoughts or how they act or anything”, but he does quickly point out that “most” of the smaller alterations are to do with Yosuke.
“He’s a little bit insensitive in terms of how he treats outsiders sometimes. So we wanted to lighten that up and make it a little bit more fitting for the world we live in now,” he explains.
If you’re familiar with the original Persona 4 or Persona 4 Golden, then that’s a pretty interesting comment.
Yosuke is, by and large, the least understanding of the game’s seven party members. He often comes across as abrasive or hotheaded, often to the detriment of the team’s ongoing investigations.
He’s very much the protagonist’s right-hand man, but he’s presented as a relatively immature person — and a big part of his development is seeing him become more and more accepting of the people around him.
But there are times when Yosuke’s writing and subsequent actions perhaps don’t hold up so well here in 2026 (or 2027, when Revival actually releases).
His attitude towards fellow party member Kanji, for example, may be perceived as being overly hostile these days — or even downright cruel.
Yosuke is also at the scene of the crime whenever proceedings get a bit… perverted, for lack of a better word. I would assume that Revival makes tweaks to some of these scenes — so maybe that’s what Wada is getting at.
It’ll be interesting to compare Revival to its predecessors once it’s out. Until then, I think this kind of stuff is difficult to properly judge — although I am slightly concerned that by softening Yosuke’s edges too much, Revival might strip him of some fairly meaningful character development.
But I’d trust Atlus to get it right, especially if a key figure like Wada is aware of the situation.
