A number of product recall warnings have been issued this week for items sold at M&S, Amazon, Primark and John Lewis.
When these safety warnings are issued, shoppers should check their purchases to ensure they don’t have any recalled items. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) and Chartered Trading Standards Institute publicise recalled products for various reasons, such as when items contain undisclosed allergens or when a defect is found.
When a recall occurs, they provide information on why the product was removed from sale and what steps customers should take including necessary steps to obtain a free replacement, repair, or refund. The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) is also responsible for updating the public on these removals.
Products recalled this week include toys, food items and kitchenware.
The list below is not comprehensive and a full list of product recalls is regularly updated online via HM Government Product Recalls, the Chartered Trading Standards Institute (CTSI) and the Food Standards Agency (FSA).
Marks & Spencer
The M&S Food Truffle Gouda has been recalled due to the presence of listeria monocytogenes.

Symptoms caused by listeria monocytogenes can be similar to flu and include high temperature, muscle ache or pain, chills, feeling or being sick and diarrhoea. However, in rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications, such as meningitis. Some people are more vulnerable to listeria infections, including those over 65 years of age, pregnant women and their unborn babies, babies less than one month old and people with weakened immune systems.
Action: If you have bought the above product, do not eat it. Instead, return it to where you bought it from for a full refund.
Amazon
The Rainllon Baby Swimming Float which is sold via Amazon is being recalled as it presents a risk of injuries and drowning because the canopy may increase wind resistance and affect the stability of the float. In windy conditions, the float may be lifted, tipped over, pushed away, or destabilised, creating risks of falls, capsising, separation from the caregiver, entrapment, or drowning.

Action: The import has been rejected at the border and destroyed. The listing has been removed by the online marketplace (Amazon).
Owners are advised to stop using the product and contact the distributor they purchased from for redress.
Also recalled are the Sand-Filled Weirdo Toys sold via Amazon. The product presents a risk to health as the sand in the toy may be contaminated with a small quantity of asbestos. Asbestos is a banned substance because it poses a risk to health even at low levels of exposure.

Action: The products have been withdrawn from the market and recalled from end users by the seller, Nico Toys Limited. Owners should stop using the product immediately.
Disposal instructions:
If the product is intact and the sand is not accessible, place in a heavy-duty plastic bag, double tape it securely, label it clearly and store in a secure location out of the reach of children. If the product is damaged and the sand is accessible, clean up sites where the product was used using wet cloths to avoid generating dust. Wear gloves and a mask.
