A round-up of all the latest CQC reports from the last week.
Five GP practices and care providers across Greater Manchester received glowing reports from the Care Quality Commission this week.
Practices in Bolton, Rochdale, and Salford were handed ‘good’ ratings by the government watchdog, which inspects medical provisions across England and publishes new reports every week.
The Sides Medical Practice in Swinton, Salford was described by patients as ‘brilliant’ and ‘like a family’ in more than 100 warm reviews from patients. Staff there are helping break down barriers to accessing medical care for vulnerable groups such as those with learning disabilities, and people who are homeless.

Meanwhile, the ‘just fantastic’ Village Medical Centre was praised for its extra work on cancer awareness and cancer screening, going above and beyond to make it easier for women to attend cervical smear tests.
Here is a breakdown of Greater Manchester’s recently published CQC reports:
Bolton
Crompton View Surgery, also known as Dr Walmsley and partners
Crompton View Surgery, also known as Dr Walmsley and partners, has been given a CQC ‘good’ rating in all areas. The surgery on Crompton Way serves almost 6,000 people in the local area.
The area has a relatively high level of deprivation, and staff were praised for how they supported people to live healthier lives and treat people with ‘empathy and dignity’. This was echoed by patients, who described staff as “always kind and doing their best to help you” when interviewed by inspectors.
The watchdog praised the use of Health Improvement Practitioners who support patients with issues such as loneliness, money, jobs and housing alongside their health.
The watchdog also commended the practice for its ‘clean facilities and maintained equipment’. They found there were enough staff present with the right skills, and that the surgery managed the risk of infection well.
Fig Tree Medical Practice in Farnworth also received a ‘good’ rating from the government watchdogs. The practice on Frederick Street specialises in midwifery, family planning, and diagnostics, and was praised for its effective delivery of medical care.
The practice routinely monitors their patients’ health, and keeps regular contact with high-priority groups such as those with serious mental health issues or diabetes, an inspector found.
The report added the practice is well-staffed, clean, and safe. Staff members felt they had a ‘shared vision’ for the continuous improvement of people’s health, and there is a ‘proactive relationship between senior staff and employees.
Rochdale
At-home care service Apollo Home Healthcare Limited – North West also received a glowing report from the government watchdog. The care provider looks after kids and adults with very complex care needs, often after they’ve left hospital after an extended stay.
Ofsted inspectors praised the ‘highly personalised care’, the inclusion of families in care planning, and the way staff worked alongside other healthcare professionals. The provider currently looks after 62 people, including 36 children, and helps give them ‘the best possible quality of life’, according to the report.
People the watchdog spoke to said they felt listened to by staff and praised their care. On person said: “It’s a brilliant service and carers go the extra mile.”
Another added they were ‘responsive’ and ‘approachable’.
The report also noted the management team had ‘excellent oversight of the service’ and there was a ‘strong culture of learning and improvement’.
The Village Medical Centre in Littleborough was also rated ‘good’ by CQC for its skilled and efficient staff and effective services.
The watchdog was particularly impressed by the surgery’s screening programmes, which performed better than the Englad average for breast and bowel cancer, and cancer awareness events. The practice also opened between 7am and 8am so women could attend a cervical smear test outside working hours, the inspectors noted.
Overall, they witnessed a ‘clean, safe, and well-staffed practice’ where patients were treated with kindness and compassion. Patients described their care as ‘just fantastic’.
The Sides Medical Practice on Moorside Road
Salford
The Sides Medical Practice on Moorside Road in Swinton, was deemed to be a ‘well-led, effective, and caring’ by the CQC, who gave the surgery a ‘good’ rating.
More than 100 patients gave the site a glowing review to inspectors, describing staff as “brilliant”, “truly caring”, and “like a family”. The GP practice was praised for its sensitivity to addressing barriers to accessing medical care, such as extra support for those with learning disabilities, or considering the needs of homeless patients.
Staff kept facilities ‘clean, well-managed and maintained equipment appropriately’, and employed a ‘proactive approach to health promotion within the community’, inspectors found.
Where the practice received critical feedback, it reacted by making positive changes to its processes, said the report.
In general, most feedback referenced excellent treatment, caring and respectful staff, and kind receptionists.
