England are through to the semi-final of the World Cup after two goals from Jude Bellingham secured the Three Lions’ victory over Norway.

After a tense game that was 1-1 at full time, England’s second goal came after Norway’s keeper Orjan Nyland saved a shot from Morgan Rogers, only for Bellingham to chip it in on the rebound.

Norway had tried to pull ahead in the opening part of the second half, but had a goal by Torbjorn Heggem disallowed after it was ruled that Erling Haaland had pushed over Elliot Anderson during a corner.

Another corner also nearly ended in disaster after a header from Kristoffer Ajer hit the post.

England struck back with a few chances by Bellingham and Djed Spence.

But both sides appeared sluggish and exhausted as the final whistle drew close, with the sweltering heat in Miami putting temperatures over 33C.

The high humidity has exacerbated problems, with forecasters saying the temperature feels above 40C.

After the game, Thomas Tuchel said he was glad his side won but said he was not happy with how England played.

He said England “got lucky” to beat Norway.

In the first half, just minutes after the Three Lions were stunned by Andreas Schjelderup’s goal from the edge of the box, Bellingham wove through Norway’s defence to equalise.

England captain Harry Kane tried to follow up Bellingham’s goal with his own just before the end of the first half, but had his chip into the back of the net disallowed for offside.

In a message on social media, the Prince of Wales said: “Well done England! Top performance in a tough environment. This is a special team.

“Commiserations to a proud Norway team.

“Onto the semi final… Never in doubt!”

Sir Keir Starmer celebrated England’s win with a post on X telling Norway’s prime minister Jonas Gahr Store that his team “took one hell of beating”.

The prime minister posted: “Norway 1 – 2 Jude Bellingham. @JonasGahrStore your boys took one hell of beating.”
