Coventry is set to remain under a heat health warning with temperatures expected to stay around 30C. UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) guidance covering the city has been extended until Wednesday.
Originally set to end at 9am on Monday (July 13), the Amber warning has now been extended until 9pm on Wednesday (July 15). Significant impacts are likely across health and social care services over the coming days.
Conditions are expected to be ‘dry and sunny’ across Coventry and Warwickshire in the week ahead. Highs of 29C are expected, according to the Met Office.

Met Office Science Manager, Dr Amy Doherty, said: “We have already seen a number of remarkable temperature milestones. Not only have we now recorded a record eight days with temperatures exceeding 34C, surpassing the previous record held by 1976 and 2020, but it is also the first year in the UK weather record to see temperatures reach 35C or higher in May, June and July.”
Health officials warned that the heat could have a greater impact on older people and those with existing health conditions. Younger age groups may also be affected, with people advised to stay cool and hydrated.
Dr Agostinho Sousa, Head of Extreme Events and Health Protection at the UKHSA, said: “Sustained periods of warm weather can result in serious negative health outcomes across the population, so it is important that everyone takes sensible precautions while enjoying the sun.
“Based on the current forecast, we do not currently expect the health impacts to be as high as the heatwave we saw at the end of June, but older adults and those with pre-existing conditions are still at risk.”
Dr Sousa continued: “If you have friends, family, or neighbours who are more vulnerable, it is important to check in on them and ensure they are aware of the forecast and are following the necessary advice.
“Simple steps such as staying hydrated, avoiding the sun during the hottest part of the day, and keeping your home cool are effective ways to help keep yourself and others safe during periods of hot weather.”
