The vote took place as part of Butterfly Conservation’s first nationwide poll to name Britain’s favourite butterfly, with the Peacock coming out on top nationally.

Other Berkshire favourites included the Red Admiral (second), Orange-tip (third), Holly Blue (fourth), and Peacock (fifth).

The Brimstone can be spotted during the Big Butterfly Count, which runs this year from July 17 to August 9 and asks people to spend 15 minutes counting butterflies in any sunny outdoor space.

Kate Merry, head of engagement at Butterfly Conservation, said: “It’s been wonderful to see so many people in Berkshire get behind their favourite butterflies in the vote.

“Now we want that passion to turn into action.

“It’s easy, fun for all the family, and a great excuse to get outside and experience the simple joy of spotting butterflies.

“Download the app, mark the date, and get ready to get out for the Count!”
