A police cordon has now been in place for almost 10 hours, since around 8am this morning. It remains in force as of 5.40pm this afternoon.
The cordon covers Compton Road, near Narborough Road, between the junctions of Mountcastle Road and Wolverton Road. Privacy screens remain along the road, though the blue police tent that had been erected within the cordon has now been taken down.
Forensic officers, who had been carrying out work at the scene throughout the day, have now left. It is not yet known what prompted the police presence, and Leicestershire Police has not yet confirmed the nature of the incident.
Residents living nearby reported hearing loud bangs overnight, with one local resident, Janos, 44, saying he heard “six to eight shots, or bangs” in the early hours.
Another resident said the cordon was not yet in place at 6am, and that they had heard voices in the street at around 3am before it went quiet.
Officers earlier told residents that cars within the cordon were unlikely to be retrieved today, with the closure expected to remain in place into the evening.
