The cast of Line of Duty are now officially “off duty” as filming wraps for the show’s new season. The BBC police drama, created by Jed Mercurio and filmed in Northern Ireland, will return next year for its seventh series.
It was confirmed in spring 2026 that the hit show would return to Belfast for filming, with stars Martin Compston, Adrian Dunbar, and Vicky McClure all reprising their roles.
The new series, due to be released in 2027, marks the show’s return five years after the sixth season ended in 2021.
Posting on social media on Friday, July 11, Vicky McClure confirmed filming has now finished for the show. Sharing two photos with her co-stars Martin Compston and Adrian Dunbar, she said: “And we’re Off Duty!! The last 4 months spent with two of my best mates.
“The brilliant cast and crew pulledo ut all the stops to bring Jed Mercurio’s script to life… thank you. Home time now, so can’t wait, missed my lot every single day.”
The new series will see AC-12 disbanded and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards. The plot centres around the unit and the investigation of Detective Inspector Dominic Gough, who is accused of abusing his position of trust.
The cast and crew of the hit show have been spotted filming around Belfast in recent months, with filming taking place since March.
However, during this time it has faced some challenges, such as difficult filming due to riots in Belfast and an injury to Martin Compston during the production.
