The 28-year-old’s best run in the prestigious SW19 Grand Slam tennis event came in the mixed doubles, where, with his partner Maia Lumsden, they defeated Highgate-based Joshua Paris – who incidentally is Jones’s regular men’s playing partner – and Eden Silva (6-3, 3-6, 6-3) before going out in round two to the British-Canadian duo of Joe Salisbury and Leylah Fernandez (4-6, 6-4, 2-6).

In the men’s doubles with Paris, they were eliminated in the first round to Italy’s number four seed pairing of Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori (4-6, 3-6).

“I absolutely loved every second competing at my first Wimbledon this year,” said Jones, who is currently ranked 158 in the ATP world doubles standings.

“My dream has always been to play Wimbledon, so it was so fun playing on the courts with all of my friends and family watching in the stands being loud.

“Winning a match in the mixed doubles with Maia was such a special moment and I’ll never forget the feeling of winning my first match at Wimbledon, especially when the atmosphere was as amazing as it was.”

Jones is now hoping to qualify for the last Grand Slam of the tennis year, the US Open, which is held in Flushing Meadows, New York between August 23 and September 13.

He begins his road to the US Open campaign at this week’s Lincoln ATP Challenger 75, where he will team up with St Albans-based Charles Broom in the men’s doubles event.

“I’m heading off to the US and Canada for five to six weeks of Challenger events with the aim of maybe sneaking into the US Open,” Jones added.

“But the main focus is looking to secure acceptance into the Australian Open and French Open next year.”

Following her first-round defeat in the women’s singles event to 2017 Roland Garros champion Jelena Ostapenko, Hampstead’s Harriet Dart with her partner Maia Lumsden went out in the opening round of women’s doubles, losing to Indonesia’s Janice Tjen and Aldila Sutjiadi in straight sets.

Dart, the current world number 152, began her US Open preparations this week at Vanda Pharmaceuticals Athens Open WTA250 event in Greece, where in the first round she defeated Germany’s Mina Hodzic in three sets 6-3, 3-6, 7-6.

She will next play local favourite, world number 37 Maria Sakkari.

Joshua Paris won his first-round match with Paraguay’s Adolfo Daniel Vallejo in the Nordea Open ATP 250 clay court men’s doubles event in Bastad, Sweden, defeating Diego Hidalgo (Ecuador) and Alejandro Tabilo (Chile) 6-3, 7-6.
