Friends have spoken of their shock after the sudden death of a “loving and kind” father and boxing coach from Co Antrim in Tenerife.
Ryan Lowry from Ballycastle, aged in his early 30s, had been on holiday with his girlfriend Ana when he was taken to Our Lady of Candelaria University Hospital where he died on Friday.
Described as the “adored father” of his young daughter, Miya Rose, he had been a popular volunteer coach at Ballycastle Amateur Boxing Club.
A fundraiser set up by the club manager, Gerard Hughes, has since raised nearly £10,000.
“He was very loving and kind with his time, volunteering to coach young kids on a Sunday from the ages of five up to 11,” Mr Hughes told the Irish News.

“One thing about him that everyone who knew him says, he was always smiling and that’s why it is such a shock.
“The Kevin Bell Trust is helping out, they’re a well respected charity and do a lot of good work.
“The Gofundme had been started as a spur of the moment thing you do to try and help out, but we didn’t realise how much people would donate.
“We all just can’t believe it.”
He continued: “I know a lot of the kids we work with, like us, are in complete shock. The younger they are it makes it very hard for them to understand.”
“His daughter Miya actually took part in the boxing classes he took on Sunday and he was very involved in her life.
“It’s just so hard for them all at the minute.”
A further tribute on the club’s page spoke of the “monumental loss.”
“Your infectious laugh, smile and kind heart will never be forgotten. The gym will never be the same without your craic.”
Thanking those who donated, the message added: “Ryan’s memory will live on in our hearts, in our club, and in the lives of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
“Rest easy, Ryan. You will never be forgotten.”
Mr Lowry’s grandmother Ann also commented: “Thank you all for the lovely messages…I know he’s going to be missed a lot. I know I am missing him already.”
Funeral arrangements are to be announced at a later date, with donations in lieu of flowers to be made to the Kevin Bell Trust, care of PJ Dallat & Sons funeral Directors in Ballycastle.
