A 13-year-old girl who died after being found unresponsive was from Greater Manchester with a murder investigation now underway.
The teenager, locally identified as Casey, was rushed to hospital following an emergency call to a flat on Sheepridge Road, Sheepridge, Huddersfield, on Monday evening, reports Yorkshire Live.
Sadly, despite best efforts, Casey’s life could not be saved and she passed away in the early hours of Tuesday morning. The cause of her death remains undetermined, with a post mortem examination currently concluding it as “unexplained pending further investigation”.
A 16-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of murder and rape in relation to Casey’s death. He has also been arrested for an alleged rape of a 16 year old girl in what police have referred to as a “separate incident” elsewhere in Kirklees.
Yesterday, West Yorkshire Police said the boy had been released on conditional bail.
YorkshireLive reports that Casey was originally from Greater Manchester. She had been living in the Liverpool area and was understood to be in the care system at the time of her death.
It has been reported that she visited Huddersfield on Monday, August 11, the day she was found unresponsive in the flat.
The news of her death has sent shockwaves through the town.

Huddersfield MP Harpreet Uppal said: “This is a tragic case and my thoughts remain with the 13 year old teenager and her family and friends. I have been in contact with the police and I am being updated on the investigation.
“Detectives are working tirelessly to fully understand the circumstances surrounding the girl’s death which is being treated as unexplained after a post mortem could not establish how she died. Enquiries remain ongoing by detectives.”
A spokesperson for the force said: “Detectives are working to fully understand the circumstances of the girl’s death which is being treated as unexplained after a post mortem could not establish how she died.
“The 16-year-old was also released on conditional police bail regarding an offence of rape relating to a 16-year-old girl from a separate incident elsewhere in Kirklees. Enquires into both incidents remain ongoing by detectives.”
The Force’s Homicide and Major Enquiry Team is spearheading the investigation, which police have described as being “complex” and “likely to be lengthy”.
