Johnny Depp has officially been revealed in Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol.
Directed by Ti West (the X trilogy), with a script written by Nathaniel Halpern based on the classic 1843 novel A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, the upcoming film stars Depp as Scrooge – the tightfisted, irritable, and reclusive old man whose cold-hearted obsession with wealth causes him to loathe Christmas and reject anything that inspires joy or goodwill.
Now, ahead of its release later this year, a new poster for Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol has revealed the first official look at Depp as the classic character Ebenezer Scrooge. Check it out below:

On the poster, the tagline reads, “Before he was Scrooge, he was Ebenezer,” and on X, the post reads, “The name you know. The story you don’t,” both of which suggest the upcoming film will focus more on the character’s backstory and how he became the old miser that audiences know in A Christmas Carol.
Other than Depp as Ebenezer Scrooge, the cast also includes Arthur Conti as young Ebenezer, Rupert Grint as Bob Cratchit, Andrea Riseborough as the Ghost of Christmas Past, Tramell Tillman as the Ghost of Christmas Present, Ian McKellen as Jacob Marley, Daisy Ridley as the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come, Sam Claflin as Fred, Charlie Murphy as Mr. Fezziwig, Ellie Bamber as Isabel Fezziwig, and Nicholas Day.
Ebenezer is just the latest film adaptation of A Christmas Carol, of which there are countless. Some of the most famous include Scrooge (1935, 1951, 1970), A Christmas Carol (1938, 1984, 1999, 2009, 2019), Scrooged (1988), and Spirited (2022).
A studio film from Paramount Pictures, Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol marks Depp’s biggest role since his defamation-lawsuit victory in 2022. Since then, the industry has gradually begun welcoming him back. Scrooge is a role that plays directly to Depp’s strengths, following a career defined by eccentric and unforgettable characters including Captain Jack Sparrow, the Mad Hatter, Ichabod Crane, and Willy Wonka.
Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol is scheduled to be released in theaters in the United States on November 13.
