Witney named most expensive place for a pint in the UK

Witney was revealed to sell the most expensive single drink in the whole of the United Kingdom with a pint costing up to £7, as of last July.

This was 50p more expensive than the priciest pint in London, and three times more expensive than the cheapest pint found in West Sussex.

Research was conducted from the Online Marketing Surgery and MG Timber, a UK manufacturer of outdoor furniture, to rank the cheapest and most expensive towns and cities to buy a pint of beer nationally. 

Based on data sourced from the cost of living database Numbeo in May 2025, the report also gave insight into the wider affordability of dining out, with average prices for a three-course meal for two also included.

The national average for a domestic beer across the UK was £5 which went up to £6.50 in London and £6.20 in Oxford. 

A three-course meal for two at a mid-range restaurant would set you back an average of £65 across the UK which was cheaper in Oxford at £58 on average, but went up to a shocking £80 in London.

The most expensive towns for a pint after Witney at £7 were Lewisham in London at £6.50, followed by Brighton in East Sussex and Godalming in Surrey tied at a pricey £6.30. 

The cheapest areas for a beer were named as Arun in West Sussex, where a pint cost just £2, followed by Burnley in Lancashire, at £2.50 and Llandudno in Wales at £2.71.

According to the Office for National Statistics, the retail price index of a draught lager, per pint, was £4.83 in the UK in January 2025.
