Brian Keeler said hiring a skip for his garden rubbish would have cost him about £125.

After getting rid of the waste in one of the community skips, he said: “It meant everything… and I’d gladly donate some money to someone.”

Lewis Parker, landlord of the Nunsthorpe Tavern, has lived on the estate for 17 years.

He said he wanted to help fund the project to give something back to the community.

He added that the estate suffered from fly-tipping, “the same as most areas”, and said he hoped the initiative would have a positive effect in the long run.
