“You can feel the buzz around the guys for it”: Beyers Swanepoel ahead of Hampshire clash
Having initially signed on a red-ball only contract with Worcestershire, it has been a busier than anticipated summer for all-rounder Beyers Swanepoel.
Drafted into the Vitality T20 Blast squad in wake of the premature departure of Sikandar Raza, Swanepoel made his List A debut for the Rapids in the side’s opening match of the 2026 Metro Bank One Day Cup against Derbyshire on Friday.
The seamer wasted no time in acquainting himself with List A cricket, returning superb figures of 3-15 from his excellent spell that included taking the new ball.
Enjoying life in 50-over environment, the 28-year-old looks set to play a big part in Worcestershire’s title defence across the coming weeks.
Excited by the opportunity to run out in the competition on for the first time against the Falcons, Swanepoel was delighted to have made a bright start for his team.
“I really enjoyed it on Friday.
“I have obviously played at New Road a few times now and this is home, but to be able to do it in a competition that I wasn’t expecting to play in and one that everyone enjoys so much was amazing.
“Every time I play, I want to represent the Club in the best way possible, so to take a few wickets felt great.
“Fateh put us in a really strong position through those middle overs, but it was nice to be able to take a couple for myself at the end.
“I know how much everyone cares about the tournament, and I was really happy to play a part in that win on Friday – it felt great!”
