Quick Take

Robert Downey Jr. came to SDCC 2026 and debuted his new accent for Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday, and we kinda love his voice.

Robert Downey, Jr.’s return to the MCU as Doctor Doom is perhaps one of the most anticipated debuts in nerdy entertainment history. Downey, who famously sparked this film franchise as Tony Stark aka Iron Man, will become one of the biggest threats that the Avengers have faced. The initial news about his casting made a huge wave at SDCC two years ago, and he returned in 2026 with the Avengers: Doomsday trailer as well as a wild new Doctor Doom voice accent.

Downey came out for the big Marvel Hall H panel with a really fly green and black suit jacket on to drop hints about the film. He started off in his normal voice saying that decisions will have to be made in Avengers: Doomsday. You can be on the side of the good guys. Or perhaps, as Downey says and switches to his Doctor Doom voice in all its accent glory, you may consider the alternative of joining the family of Doom.

Personally, I like the latter option because 1) villains look cooler and 2) they seem to have way more fun. Who wants to use their smarts and powers to save the world? Very, very boring.
