Colnago once again took home the bragging rights, in large part thanks to Tadej Pogačar and his insatiable thirst for stage victories, but also with debutant Isaac del Toro on stage 2, taking a rare win for a lightweight bike.

Specialized remain second across the two teams they sponsor, while Canyon were third with all their wins coming courtesy of Alpecin-Premier Tech. Meanwhile Richard Carapaz ensured Cannondale took home multiple honors. A big spread of brands make up the rest of the wins as teams split the spoils between them.

Meanwhile many brands missed out, with Pinarello likely feeling the worst hit given they sponsor two teams. French brands also missed out, along with their national riders, making it a slightly woeful Tour for the home nation save for young superstars Pual Sexias and Lenny Martinez completing the top-5 in GC.

With two time trial stages, almost the rest of the stages were taken aboard full aero or all-rounder frames. The sole exception here was Isaac del Toro on his lightweight Colnago V5RS rather than the Y1RS that Pogačar exclusively rode.

All-rounder bike victories came thanks to the Specialized S-Works Tarmac SL9. Meanwhile the updated, lighter, and more aero Cannondale SuperSix Lab71 also claimed stage honours.

It’s still clear that the prevalent trend within the WorldTour, as stage speeds get faster and faster, is to focus on aero bikes. Even with some brands having bikes fitting in somewhere between lightweight and all-rounder, full aero was the preference. In pursuit of light weight, some brands even did paint stripped versions of their aero frames. Colnago has a bare carbon Y1Rs, while Giant stripped the purple paint off some of the Giant Propel advanced SL frames to shave some grams.

Given that the climbing speeds of GC riders is now so high, the descents can still prove decisive at high speeds, and the run in to the climbs can be in excess of 50kph, the fastest route to the finish line often requires the most aerodynamic savings possible even at the expense of a few hundred grams.

Yet again, Campagnolo was only represented by one team in Cofidis, and as with last year failed to take home a victory.

SRAM managed to double its tally from last year, but Shimano remained the dominant force thanks to UAE Team Emirates-XRG, Alpecin-Premier Tech, and Soudal-QuickStep.

Interestingly only Mauro Schmid took home a stage victory on Shimano outside of these teams. 13 teams in total at the race were on Shimano, with SRAM represented by 9 showing they continue to grow in force on the road side as they dominate in gravel.

The winning tally for wheels closely matches the bikes, as many teams use proprietary wheel brands or a single one linked to them as is the case with ENVE and UAE. Roval, being a branch of Specialized, work with both sponsored WorldTour teams, but still could not overcome the might of ENVE sponsored UAE.

Shimano and Vision owe their successes to Alpecin-Premier Tech and EF Education-EasyPost, respectively, even with Vision also sponsoring XDS-Astana Team. The rest were split between in-house brands Bontrager with Trek, Cadex with Giant, and Reserve with PON-owned brand Cervélo. Swiss Side and DT Swiss took home wins with Decathlon CMA-CGM and Uno-X Mobility respectively.

Continental kept the crown as the winningest tyre in the race, but Specialized overtook Pirelli, while Vittoria and Cadex had the same number of wins as last season.

Interestingly Hutchinson and Schwalbe were no longer represented at this race as they were last year. Cadex now the singular tyre brand working with just one single team, the others all spread across multiple team sponsorships.

Tube type tyres and tubulars remain absent from the race as tubeless is the way to go. Even TPU inner tubes with weight savings or Latex with low rolling resistant are ditched in favour of puncture protection from micro-cuts that tubeless provides and can be invaluable with many teams opting for lightweight time trial tyres to drop weight and rolling resistance.

1x groupsets took home an extra win compared to last season, but two of those came from time trials and even SRAM sponsored teams predominantly opted for 2x setups when the mountains arrived. Vingegaard, notorious for 1x even on steep climbs, was unfortunately not present for the final week where perhaps the tables would be swung more in 1x favour.

However, 2x was the prevalent force and remains to be so. Weight savings between the two are small, given that the loss of the front mech required a chain catcher and often a heavier set rear mech for chain tension. While the aero savings up front may be offset by larger jumps in gear for a suitable range on more mountainous terrain.
