Daughter raising sim Volcano Princess, out today on the PS5, has launched with an incredible 236 Trophies to earn.
The game, similar to the Princess Maker series, sees you preparing the next monarch by taking on your role as her parent.
Here’s what the blurb says:
“Focusing on familial growth, you will be responsible for raising a spunky preteen who will gradually learn how to better engage with people, and practice prim & proper etiquette. You will be able to arrange for her to attend one of four major colleges in the Volcano Kingdom. There she can learn music, take up painting, or become proficient in martial arts and combat. But take care – if you neglect her, things may go astray.”
While it does sound a little weird on the surface, this game is actually critically acclaimed, and has a ton of depth to it.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Trophy list quite like this before, though: you’ll need to earn all 235 Bronze Trophies to unlock the Platinum.
Some games, like Vampire Survivors, have hundreds of Trophies – but they’re largely listed separately, as “DLC” packs. Here they’re all part of the main list.
In terms of what you actually have to do, a lot of the gongs can be grabbed by just playing, such as accumulating study sessions or money – all natural parts of playing the game.
But it does look like you’re going to have to commit a lot of time to this game to get the Platinum, because many of the other Trophies are attached to different endings and outcomes, which presumably will take a lot of precise playing to achieve.
I must admit, this game has caught my attention. I’ve never played Princess Maker or anything like it before, so I’m intrigued.
There’s actually a free demo on the PS Store, and the price is pretty low ($10.99/£8.99) so I might give it a go.
