Eddie Howe is set to leave Newcastle United as their head coach, stepping down from the position by his own choice. Arsenal remain keen on signing Bruno Guimaraes from the club, which will now be embroiled in a new manager hunt that currently points toward Matthias Jaissle.

Newcastle were beaten 4-1 by Bristol City in a pre-season friendly on Wednesday, and Howe was asked by the media about the latest regarding Guimaraes’ future.

“Any distraction, if it’s not healthy, is unhealthy, so yeah,” he said when asked if it would be negative for things to be dragged on. “But we’re not in control of that. And to some degree, I don’t think Bruno’s in control of that either.”

Interestingly, however, Howe added that there was a lack of control of some of the elements at play in the transfer saga. Howe will now leave before Guimaraes returns to the club on Friday.
