A noted virgin who can’t drive is speeding back to pole position in pop culture, with Alicia Silverstone set to reprise her Clueless role in a revived TV series based on the 1995 comedy classic.
News broke Thursday that Paramount+ — owned by the same company that distributed the original teen movie — greenlit a new series based on the film, with Silverstone returning as the iconic Cher Horowitz.
A prior attempt at reviving Clueless as a series failed earlier this year at Peacock, with CBS Studios and Paramount ultimately landing the project back at its OG studio home.
Original director Amy Heckerling will also return to produce the series alongside Silverstone, with plot details also unveiled for the upcoming project that’s set to film on location in 2027.

“Picking up 30 years after the original film, beloved Beverly Hills icon Cher Horowitz has figured out a lot,” an official synopsis reads.
It continues, “She’s successful in business and has mastered motherhood — that is, until her daughter’s high school years, and Cher finds that parenting a teenager makes her feel ‘clueless’ all over again.”
Paramount+’s announcement did not indicate whether or not fellow Clueless movie stars Stacey Dash, Elisa Donovan, Jeremy Sisto, Breckin Meyer, Wallace Shawn, Donald Faison, or Paul Rudd would reprise their roles. Supporting actress Brittany Murphy, who played the fan-favorite character Tai in the movie, died in 2009.
“Clueless is coming home,” said Paramount+’s Jane Wiseman, head of the streamer’s original programming, in a press statement. “Thirty-one years ago, Alicia Silverstone’s Cher Horowitz captivated audiences with her signature chic style, sharp wit and relentless optimism, helping make Clueless a box office hit and instant pop culture classic. We’re especially proud to be filming this much-anticipated series in Los Angeles, honoring its starring role in the original film while investing in the city’s exceptional talent and crews.”
Before Thursday’s announcement, Silverstone spoke about working on a Clueless revival.

“I think we’re going to try really hard. The goal is to make it honor what everyone loves about Clueless and Cher,” Silverstone said in 2025. “So we want to honor that, but also bring something fresh and new to it. I’m confident that we’ll be able to do that, but we’re in baby stages right now.”

Clueless also existed in two other notable forms after the 1995 original. Dash and Faison reprised their parts in a Clueless sitcom that ran on ABC from 1996 to 1999, while, in 2019, an “Adderall-fueled” reboot was announced.
The plot of that shelved program would’ve followed Cher’s best friend, Dionne (Dash, in the film), rising through the ranks of high school hierarchy amid a frantic search for Cher, whose mysterious disappearance would’ve served as a subplot.
