As if they could keep Cher Horowitz down!
Alicia Silverstone is set to reprise her iconic role from “Clueless” for a sequel TV series.
Paramount+, owned by the same company that distributed the original 1995 comedy, gave the series the greenlight with Silverstone returning as Cher.
There had been a previous attempt to launch a series based on the movie at Peacock.
“Picking up 30 years after the original film, beloved Beverly Hills icon Cher Horowitz has figured out a lot,” an official synopsis reads. “She’s successful in business and has mastered motherhood — that is, until her daughter’s high school years, and Cher finds that parenting a teenager makes her feel ‘clueless’ all over again.”
Original director Amy Heckerling will return to produce the series alongside Silverstone, and filming is expected to start in 2027.
“‘Clueless’ is coming home,” Paramount+’s Jane Wiseman, head of the streamer’s original programming, said in a statement to Deadline. “Thirty-one years ago, Alicia Silverstone’s Cher Horowitz captivated audiences with her signature chic style, sharp wit and relentless optimism, helping make Clueless a box office hit and instant pop culture classic. We’re especially proud to be filming this much-anticipated series in Los Angeles, honoring its starring role in the original film while investing in the city’s exceptional talent and crews.”
No news yet if any of the films other stars Stacey Dash, Elisa Donovan, Jeremy Sisto, Breckin Meyer, Wallace Shawn, Donald Faison, or Paul Rudd will reprise their roles. Sadly, the story will be without the beloved Tai, played by the late Brittany Murphy, who died in 2009.
“Clueless” celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2025 and was recently added to the US National Film Registry by the Library of Congress.
