The Second Sister is the focus of this Star Wars Character Spotlight, the main villain of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. One of the more notable Inquisitors, she provided a very interesting foil to Cal Kestis as a fellow survivor of the Jedi Purge. While Cal stayed true to the light, the Second Sister fell to the dark side very quickly and proved to be her doom.
Order 66
The Second Sister’s story starts as a Jedi padawan at the end of the Clone Wars. Her real name is Trilla Suduri, apprentice to Jedi Master Cere Junda. When Order 66 was activated, Trilla hid inside a cave with her master and some Jedi younglings. Worried that the clones would discover them, Cere left the cave to lead them away from their position despite Trilla’s desperate pleas for her to stay. She intended to circle back and lead them all to safety.
Unfortunately, that didn’t happen. Cere’s plan failed and Trilla was captured. Rather than simply being executed though, she was sent to Fortress Inquisitorius. She was tortured until she eventually broke and gave in to the dark side, blaming her old master for abandoning her to the Empire. She was annointed as an Inquisitor and given the title Second Sister.
Soon after, Cere was also captured. She held firm under torture, but seeing her old padawan as an agent of the Inquisitorius devastated her. She couldn’t control her anger and used the Force to incapacitate everyone around her, including Trilla. Ashamed at her failure, Cere fled the facility and went into hiding.
Trilla’s hatred for her master only increased. She hunted the galaxy for her and other Jedi, determined to take revenge.
Hunting Cal Kestis
Though the Second Sister appears briefly in the novel Inquisitor: Rise of the Red Blade and can be seen in the Darth Vader 2017 comic run as the Inquisitors toast the death of Eeth Koth, her first major story comes in her debut, at the beginning of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
Five years after Order 66, the Second Sister and Ninth Sister responded to a report that a Jedi had been sighted on Bracca, the junkyard planet. After isolating the train that their target was traveling on, they lined up the suspects and demanded that the Jedi reveal themselves.
After killing an Abednedo who used the opportunity to speak out against the Empire, Cal Kestis revealed himself, provoked into action by the death of his friend. The Second Sister blocked his attack easily and grabbed hold of him with the Force, throwing him over to the Ninth Sister. However, Cal surprised the Inquisitor, who dropped him off a ledge. Cal landed on another train and the two Inquisitors pursued him, with Trilla eventually catching up. After a quick duel, Cal was rescued by Cere and her pilot Greez on his ship the Stinger Mantis. Trilla lept onto the viewport and attempted to use the Force to manipulate the ship’s steering, but she was eventually thrown off and the ship escaped to hyperspace.
Duel on Zeffo
The Second Sister and Ninth Sister both kept an ear out for sightings of Cal Kestis and Cere Junda, eventually learning that the former had been sighted on Zeffo, before teaming up with Saw Gerrera to liberate Wookiees on Kashyyyk. She also discovered what the two fugitives were searching for; an old Jedi holocron with the identities of Force-sensitive children across the galaxy. She set her sights on recovering that holocron to gain the favor of Darth Sidious.
Realizing that Cal was searching for Zeffo tombs, the ancient civilization that had once been the obession of Eno Cordova, Cere Junda’s old master, she waited for Cal to return to Zeffo to investigate a tomb that the Empire had been excavating.
She waited outside the tomb entrance and ambushed Cal when he arrived. The two dueled and Trilla nearly delivered the killing blow, only for Cal’s droid BD-1 to activate a forcefield between the two of them. The Second Sister was forced to let her prey leave as Cal entered the tomb.
Soon after this, the Second Sister traveled to Kashyyyk and interrogated what was left of Saw’s Partisans and their Wookiee allies, looking for any information they had on Cal Kestis. She killed scores of people in the process, as Cal discovered when he returned later on.
Ambush on Bogano
The Second Sister’s next appearance actually comes in Fallen Order‘s tie-in comic Dark Temple. She arrives on the planet Ontotho, a world once visited by Cere Junda and Eno Cordova, after hearing reports of a Jedi in the area. She soon identified the “Jedi” in question, but realized the woman was an imposter as she defeated her easily, severing her arm.
Upon investigating an old Zeffo temple on the planet, she found an old datapad left behind by Cordova, from which she was able to discover that he had located a Zeffo site on Bogano. She didn’t know for certain that Cal and Cere would visit the planet anytime soon, but she kept tabs on the planet just in case.
Now back to Fallen Order and sure enough, Cal and Cere arrived on Bogano. When Cal entered the Zeffo site, Trilla made her move. When she arrived, Cal was experiencing the end of a Force vision, allowing her to get the jump on him while the Empire surrounded the site, cutting off any support from Cere and the others onboard the Mantis.
As Cal retrieved the holocron, she made her move. The two dueled and this time, Cal nearly won until he touched her lightsaber after disarming her. He was flooded with Trilla’s memories of Order 66 due to his Force psychometry abilities, so Trilla used the opportunity to take the holocron from him and flee. She immediately returned to Fortress Inquisitorius with the holocron.
Death
Cal and Cere both followed the Second Sister to Fortress Inquisitorius. It’s unclear if she expected them to pursue her so quickly, but either way she would have been alerted to their presence once they started cutting their way through stormtroopers, and especially after they partially flooded the underwater facility.
She waited for them both in the torture chamber where both she and Cere had fallen to the dark side, ambushing Cal as soon as he arrived. They fought a tense duel, but this time Cal only just edged it, succeeding in disarming her. At this point, Cere arrived and they recovered the holocron. With Trilla disarmed, Cere pleaded with her to turn her back on the dark side and return to the light.
At first, Trilla rejected the suggestion but perhaps upon seeing just how desperate Cere was to redeem her, she seemed to doubt her own resolve. At first, she just reasoned that it was surely too late for her. Cal and Cere began to hope they were making headway, until they were interrupted by Darth Vader.
It’s possible that Vader had already been on his way to collect the holocron from the Second Sister, or perhaps he was already on Mustafar and had been alerted to the Jedi infiltration of the nearby fortress. Either way, when he announced his presence, any hope of Trilla being redeemed or even surviving was snuffed out.
Realizing her impending fate, Trilla told Cere to “avenge us” just before Vader impaled her through the back with his lightsaber. Cal and Cere were forced to flee and managed to escape the facility with the holocron, but Trilla Suduri lay dead on the floor, her chance at redemption cruelly snatched away in her final moments.
What next?
There’s not much scope for the Second Sister to appear in a new story, unless it takes place in the five years between Revenge of the Sith and Fallen Order. It’s possible she could appear in another story involving the Inquisitors, or perhaps in a Clone Wars story as Cere’s padawan, but otherwise her story has been told.
