Red Dwarf V is officially returning to TV – with BBC2 set to air the series 34 years since it first made its debut.
The beloved sci-fi sitcom’s fifth series has been widely praised as the show’s best, with the six episodes bending the format into a darker tone from its laugh-out-loud roots.
Starting from Thursday 13 August, Red Dwarf V will air on BBC2 from 9pm, and will also be available on BBC iPlayer.
Among the episodes, which first aired from February to March 1992, is Holoship featuring special guest stars Don Warrington and Jane Horrocks and follows Rimmer (Chris Barrie) as he attempts to join a crew of intellectual holograms.

The new broadcast comes after the Red Dwarf world was announced to be returning in book form.
Red: Dwarf Titan, a semi-prequel to the events of the series, is co-written by Red Dwarf co-creator Rob Grant with Andrew Marshall, and follows what Lister and Rimmer were up to prior to the main events of the show.
In the story Lister and Rimmer “get a message from the far future warning them that all realities are going to collapse unless they do something about it”.
It was released on 15 July this year.
