Regulars at a very well known pub in Newcastle that’s been around for years and is a definite local legend will notice quite a remarkable difference when they walk through its doors this week. And that’s because The Hancock and, without trying to be too dramatic, The Hancock is looking ‘almost unrecognisable’ after a major refurbishment has massively changed its appearance inside and out.

As reported on by ChronicleLive earlier this year, the much loved pub, right on the outskirts of Newcastle city centre, confirmed plans to shut for more a few weeks, telling customers that they were ready to ‘take things next level’ with their transformation, promising things like More TVs than ever before to watch live sporting action on, a completely renovated beer garden – bigger, better, and ready for all seasons, brand new 1st floor booths, each with their own TVs and a fresh new look with all-new signage and interiors.

Well the team in charge at The Hancock have most definitely been true to their word as the difference from when doors shut on July 13 to now is absolutely huge. The main bar area has never looked better, with new flooring, new lighting and a new overall design to the main bar area, while, as teased, the beer garden now looks very chic indeed and the upper floor booths look like the perfect spot to book out to watch the footy or NFL with friends.

There are also some great nods to Geordie culture, with artwork including a Metroland poster and another of a bottle of Newcastle Brown Ale. The reaction from customers who’ve seen photos of the makeover online has already been sizeable, with one reacting: ‘Looks mint, shall have to come down soon!’ and another who commented: ‘This looks class!! I’m ready for the nfl season openers.’

Given its prime location just a few minutes walk from town, the fact it’s close to both Newcastle and Northumbria Universities and also isn’t far from St James Park, The Hancock is one of those places that appeals to all kids of people, from city workers, to students to United fans and its new look should only make it even more popular.
