Haydock Park Golf Club is appealing for information after an incident at around 1am on Sunday (August 2), during which it says a large number of ladies’ trophies were taken from the clubhouse.
The alleged theft has shocked members, who say many of the trophies are irreplaceable and hold enormous sentimental value.
Dave Haselden, chairman of the club, told the Star: “These trophies weren’t worth a great deal in value, but there’s hundreds of years’ worth of history there.
“Some of these trophies were over 100 years old.
“They’re very sentimental.
“Some of the trophies were donated by the families of past members who’ve passed away.”

In a social media appeal, the club said: “We are devastated to report that our club has been broken into and a large number of our Ladies’ trophies have been stolen.
“These are not just trophies.
“They represent over 100 years of history, achievement and memories.
“Many are irreplaceable and hold enormous sentimental value to generations of members who have represented our club with pride.”
The club is now urging anyone who may have seen anything suspicious or who has information about the break-in to come forward.
A £500 reward is being offered for information leading to the recovery of the trophies and the prosecution of those responsible.
The club added: “Together, we hope we can bring these treasured pieces of our club’s history home.”
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: “We received reports of a burglary at around 5:30am on Sunday August 2. No arrests have been made and enquiries ongoing.”
